The High Mountain Court (The Five Courts of Okrith #1) by A. K Mulford

The High Mountain Court (The Five Crowns of Okrith #1) A.K Mulford Found this book on Kindle Unlimited and it really seemed like something I’d be interested in because of how much I’ve been into witches and fae. There are so many books on kindle unlimited, but it just seems like a lot of them are smut. I’m a fan of it, don’t get me wrong, but it is still all very new to me. So this was a friendly face in the middle of it all that was reminiscent of ACOTAR, Serpent and Dove, and Blood and Honey. They all very much have the same vibe and I love the idea of different courts and magic. Thing with this book is that I read it in one day. So my notes are a little iffy because of it, so bare with me! This Book is About: A witch, Remy, hides her true self from the kingdom she lives in, where she is actually hunted. A Fae prince, the bastard prince, of the kingdom court that wants her dead most of all finds her and asks her for help.  This help includes finding hidden artifacts that belong t

The Impossible Girl by Lydia Kang

The Impossible Girl  by Lydia Kang 1850’s a woman named Cora is born with two hearts and is of mixed lineage, which is considered taboo at that time. Disowned by her family, she becomes a resurrectionist to provide for her Maid (Who is like a mother to her) and her Uncle Alexander. Who was a beau of her late Aunt Charlotte.  Being a resurrectionist, someone who robs graves and sells them to universities or oddities museums, she is at an advantage to hear any rumors of her predicament. In order to do this and survive, she pretends to be her own twin, Jacob, in order to protect herself even further and to do the dirty work. This is full of finding the truth, love, and betrayal. What I liked:  Setting is in 1850’s New York City and there is a wonderful slow burn romance with Theodore Flint.  There are two wonderful twists in the story. One that seems obvious and the other that completely takes you by surprise. The reveals are both wonderful for these twists, how Cora reacts to it, but als

The Shadows: A Novel by Alex North

The Shadows: A Novel By Alex North This book is about: Paul returns to his hometown after 25 years, only stepping foot in town because his mother is in hospice after an accident. He escaped from there as soon as possible after a horrendous murder took place, that friends from his childhood committed. Copycat killings have been occurring but he’s paid no attention to the news, only finding out because his mother has been keeping record. A detective, Amanda, who is investigating the most recent of the copycat murders is thrown into the mystery of what actually took place 25 years ago. Thrown into confronting the past, what he took part in, and those he surrounded himself with. Paul is face to face with Red Hands and what actually happened to Charlie.  What I liked: How loving and protective Paul’s mother was as well as some of the other parents through out the novel. That it jumped between Then and Now to give a lot of information and background to what was happening. That the smallest

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Mexican Gothic  by Silvia Moreno-Garcia I was checking out new releases in 2020 and this caught my eye. I’ve read a few reviews by others and even one of my favorite vloggers read it. So when I saw it on the Buy one Get one 50% off at B&N, you know I had to snag it. The other book I bought was a christmas gift for my friend, which reminds me…I have to mail out that box.  This book begins in the 1950’s with a glamorous woman named Noemí Taboada coming in from a night out to her father calling her into his office. Her father tells her that she will be traveling to see her newlywed cousin for a wellness visit after receiving a distressing letter stating there are ghosts and that her husband is poisoning her. So Noemi goes to High Place, an isolated mansion on top of the hill in the middle of the Mexican Countryside. The front for an old silver mine that was active before the revolution. From here she meets her cousins in-laws, the Doyles. Who are eerily strict and set in the old

The Perfect Guests By Emma Rous

The Perfect Guests By Emma Rous      Bought this book on a whim when researching books that were going to be new releases last year. It just sat in my TBR pile on my nook, when at the last minute I needed a new book for vacation, this is the one that just happened to be there. And let me tell you, this is one hell of a book. Couldn’t get enough of it and just had to finish it in two days. Only reason it wasn’t one was because of the drive back to Tennessee from Florida. It was phenomenal. I haven’t read anything else by Rous but I am very excited to see what else they have written. What first intrigued me was that it goes between the late 1980’s and 2019. Following the same place and the information given in the 1980’s leads to further understanding of what's happening in 2019. The story is told following two women, Beth in the late 1980’s and Sadie in 2019. Beth, an orphan and not wanted by her Aunt Caroline, is asked to be a companion for another girl Nina. The only thing is

Illusionary (Hollow Crown #2) By Zoraida Córdova

Illusionary (Hollow Crown #2) By Zoraida Córdova As soon as I finished Incendiary, I began searching for the sequel in all of the local stores. It was absolutely nowhere to be found so I ended up buying it on the Kindle to read on my phone. It was one of my travel books on vacation to Disney and I absolutely devoured it before we even left on the road. Therefore, I ended up having to search quickly for another! Just the normal bookish problems. This was the perfect companion and ending of the story in book one. There were absolutely no loose ends and honestly at the end, I just wanted more. It was a very fleshed out book and there was a point where I felt like there was absolutely no way everything could be wrapped up in 20 pages. All of the favorites are in this book or at least mentioned, with new characters who just add even more to the book.  The story picks up
