The High Mountain Court (The Five Courts of Okrith #1) by A. K Mulford

The High Mountain Court (The Five Crowns of Okrith #1)

A.K Mulford

Found this book on Kindle Unlimited and it really seemed like something I’d be interested in because of how much I’ve been into witches and fae. There are so many books on kindle unlimited, but it just seems like a lot of them are smut. I’m a fan of it, don’t get me wrong, but it is still all very new to me. So this was a friendly face in the middle of it all that was reminiscent of ACOTAR, Serpent and Dove, and Blood and Honey. They all very much have the same vibe and I love the idea of different courts and magic. Thing with this book is that I read it in one day. So my notes are a little iffy because of it, so bare with me!

This Book is About:

  • A witch, Remy, hides her true self from the kingdom she lives in, where she is actually hunted. A Fae prince, the bastard prince, of the kingdom court that wants her dead most of all finds her and asks her for help.

  • This help includes finding hidden artifacts that belong to red witches, who can animate objects, and will help defeat the dictator taking over all of the courts.

  • Along the way, she finds herself, friends, and true love.

  • There are twists, turns, and honestly the entire thing is just magnificent.

What I Liked:

  • Just enough spice to keep things interesting, and not too graphic which is a pleasant surprise.

  • There are 5 different courts, courts similarly set up like in ACOTAR.

  • There are all different types of witches, fae, and the concept of Fated Mates was 10/10 chef kisses.

  • Amazingly strong friend group, who tease, but never degrade one another.

What Wasn’t My Cup of Tea:

  • How the dictator king figured her out solely based on freckles she has on her wrists. Where it is only mentioned once.

  • Not enough of a slow burn, it was there, but they really just went fast.

  • That Heather gave her life, sweet and necessary for the plot, but just irked me that it had to be her.

  • Sister is a bit of a bitch.

Overall Thoughts:

  • Would absolutely recommend it to friends and lovers of other books like this.

  • My notes for this section are an absolute mess.

  • Love the ally reveal at the end, and who was actually on Remy’s side all along.
